How to Become a Poker Pro

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Ever wonder how young players like Tom Dwan have made playing poker their life’s work? Well, there’s no easy way to go about it. You can’t get a Bachelor of Playing Poker Degree, nor does studying under a professional automatically bestow the opportunity upon you. There is a lot of hard work involved, but the process has actually been made a bit easier with the recent online poker surge.

As is the case with all dream jobs, players should start out playing poker on the side. They should set aside a few hours each day and play free games in order to practice before pitting themselves against real players. There is no filter online that separates the pros from the novices, so a new poker player may be very intimated if they jump into paid games head first.

When you finally do decide to move onto pay-for-play games, your bankroll should be kept relatively low. One problem that aspiring pro players run into is that they spend more money than they can afford on making their dream come true. A player should stick to their bankroll, until they begin making enough money by playing poker to increase it.

Using a website like CheckYourBets.com, many aspiring pros can track their progress, which will tell them the hourly rate that they earn by playing poker. Once a player has clocked more than 500 hours and their hourly rate works out to be more than $25 hour, then they can finally think about quitting their day job and playing poker fulltime.

It is always a good idea to play at one particular online poker site. This way, you’ll get to know moderators and the operator personally, as well as become part of the community. This comes in handy when looking for sponsorships, as many websites like Titan Poker and Full Tilt Poker offer dozens of online players sponsorship deals each year, allowing them to play in live land-based tournaments.

Antonio Esfandiari Brings a Little Magic to Online Casinos

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

There is a poker player that has been playing professional poker for a little time now and he is known as “the Magician”. Antonio Esfandiari got his nickname because of the many card tricks that he would always show off with at the tables as well as the amazing poker tricks that he pulled on various players that ended up getting him to be one of the best poker players as well as one of the most well known. Not to mention a big hit with the ladies, partially due to his boyish good looks.

Online casinos have been hunting for this player to join one of their elite team members for quite some time and rumour has it that he may be close to making a decision on joining an already star studded poker pro team. Unfortunately the exact name of the online casino poker site has yet to be disclosed but there are many suspicions on who the company can be.

Online casinos love to have top players representing them and their brand at tournaments as well as throughout random games in order to create brand awareness and generate more interest and create more membership at the online casino in question.

There are many poker sites that have this technique as one of their main advertising and marketing campaigns. It will be very interesting to see what online casino will land this player as part of their portfolio. Once a player signs with the online casino they are linked to that online poker site for a certain duration of time and must sport outfits that showcase the company name on all occasions possible.

Online Casinos for Mac Users

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

It is true that until recently our world was overly saturated with PCs. In fact there were very few other options until the MAC and it was only in the last few years that MAC secured their position in the marketplace and made themselves come to the forefront. Online casinos are seeing this trend and are trying to make sure that the online casino players that use a MAC get just as much satisfaction as the PC users.

This is exactly why the online poker room called Ultimate Bet will be making special software that is for MACs only and will allow all MAC users to have a much more user friendly user interface. The online casino has been working on developing this software for a while now and has done quite a bit of research to make sure that there is an audience for the product.

There are many programs that are created with the PC in mind and most online casinos fall into that category. While many online casinos work just fine if they are downloaded onto a MAC there are also quite a few that will cause many problems and simply will not work at all.

There are other online casinos that are currently looking into solving this issue for their MAC using players. This will surely make MAC users very happy and perhaps even increase the online casino visibility in the future. Those online casinos that have large capital should strongly consider this option because it is clear that MAC has made a name for themselves and is here to stay making those users a bigger and bigger part of the online casino population.

Tragedy at Online Poker Site

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Unfortunately the news at Gambling at Home isn’t always good news. The recent news of the death of Andreas Oscarsson came as a shock and a surprise to his friends and colleagues at pokerlistings.com which is the webs leading online casino poker referral network.

Rumour has it that there was a hit placed on the wealthy individual. Furthermore, there was a man by exactly the same name killed last year in the same respect and it was said that this may have been an accident and the real intention was to kill the pokerlistings.com former owner.

Oscarsson was a young entrepreneur when he created pokerlistings.com from the ground up. He was very proud of his business and was a tough business man and negotiator. He had a son of 2 years old who was present at the Swedish home when he was murdered. The boy is too young to be a witness and there are no other witnesses to the crime.

The team at pokerlistings.com will remember Andreas as a leader although he had stepped down from this role after the birth of his son and was only an advisor to the company in the last two years.

There are currently no suspects in the case but more information will be revealed as the investigation continues and the friends and family obtain more information as to what lead to this violent crime that saw a man lose his life at the very young age of 36. He will be remembered by his family, friends and especially his son.

Girly Gambling

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The quintessential picture of an online gambler is usually one of a person in a dapper suit with a cigarette in one hand and a martini in the other. Oh yeah, and he’s a dude. Many people think gambling is a man’s game, that women are only interested in nickel slots and lottery tickets. But, with the recent boom of online gambling, that stereotypical view seems to be changing.

Online casinos have opened up the gambling market to virtually all kinds of players, and now there are more women than ever getting involved. They’re no longer sitting at the slot machines waiting for their boyfriends to go broke; they pulling up a chair to poker table, throwing the dice and spinning the wheel.

Many online casinos are taking note of this trend, catering to a more feminine audience. So, if you’re wondering why you see less and less bikini-clad vixen plastered across the home page, this is why. A lot of online casinos are either taking on themes that are more girly, with soft colours, or going for a more neutral feel.

In fact, the number of women competing in the WSOP has steadily increased over the past few years. Online poker is the reason that so many younger players have become WSOP competitors, because it offers them a safe place to practice and the same theory can be applied to female players. Leo Margets, a female player from Barcelona made it to the top 27 of the WSOP this year, so watch out, you guys, female gamblers are fierce!
